Final Celebration of Mass at St Thomas More

20 July 2025

mini PXL 20250720 080520969

Today, 20th July 2025 was the final celebration of the Mass by the Dean of the Cathedral, Fr John Millar. The church/hall was blessed and opened by Thomas Pearson, first Bishop of Lancaster, on May 9 1937. A scheme of church, presbytery, school and parish hall was intended, with a new church and the existing building turned into the hall of the proposed junior school. Only the church/hall and presbytery were completed. The church is a utilitarian brick design with Crittall windows and a slate roof.

World Day of Migrants and Refugees (WDMR

26 September 2025

Every year the World Day of Migrants and Refugees (WDMR) is celebrated on the last Sunday of September but this year, to coincide with the Jubilee of Migrants, the day will be celebrated over the weekend of 4 and 5 October. The theme is 'Migrants, missionaries of hope,' emphasising the resilience and faith of migrants and refugees in the face of hardship. Our Lead Bishop for Migrants and Refugees, Bishop Paul McAleenan, offers this message for the day.

  1. Pope Leo in Lancaster
  2. Cardinal Re’s homily given at the Funeral Mass for Pope Francis
  3. Dr Caroline Hull welcomes Pope Leo XIV
